The Old-Time Winter Square Dance
was a hoot and a holler!

Over 120 people of all ages joined hands at the Haliburton Legion and circled up to dance the night away with an old-time winter square dance.

Square dance caller Hannah Shira

Naiman led fun and easy square, circle and contra dances. Dancers promenaded, circled right and left, "dug for the oyster and dove for the clam", did the Virginia Reel, Patty Cake Polka and ended the evening with a waltz.

Dancers were treated to live music from bluegrass musicians Nathan Smith, Kyle Kirpatrick & Tim O'Reilly.

Haliburton's own Haliburton Scottish Country Dancers presented an excellent demonstration of traditional Scottish Country dances.

It was a beautiful celebration of dance and community on a cold, winter evening.

The event was held in partnership with

Hike Haliburton, Winter Edition and a part of the February Folk Festival. Funding for this event was generously provided by the Canada Arts Presentation Fund and the County of Haliburton, tourism department.
