Lemon Bucket Orkestra
There's nothing like a community dance in the middle of the winter. We invited the Lemon Bucket Orkestra to heat up the night of the full moon in February, 2020
The Lemon Bucket Orkestra is a guerilla-punk-balkan-folk-brass band massive like no other. They started on the streets of Toronto as a quartet of busking troubadours and then quickly amassed a battalion of like-minded musical souls and the full-blown, dozen plus strong Orkestra was born. They have been heralded as a groundbreaking, genre-bending phenomenon by Canadian and international media and over the past 8 years they have performed on streets and stages around the world. A Lemon Bucket Orkestra performance is an extraordinary interactive event with exquisite dancing, storytelling, traditional/contemporary/klezmatic full sound music expressing pathos and joy.
They offered a free workshop on Eastern European social dancing accompanied by the full orkestra. When do you ever get to go to a dance workshop with a full band providing the music?
Thirty enthusiastic souls from ages 8 to 80 had a full work out, learned a lot of new steps and had a lot of fun.
And then over 150 people poured into the legion hall and danced through the evening. By the last song all but a few were on the dance floor surrounding the band as they brought the evening to a tumultuous close and left us with the invocation to go out into the streets and yell peace.
And so we did!
